Flax

Flaxseeds come from the linum usitatissimum plant which is an annual herbaceous plant that grows spontaneously. They are known for their emollient and protective properties as they are very useful to counteract internal or external inflammation of epidermis. Another beneficial principle of flaxseed is the high percentage of mucilages. These substances have a laxative power which can assists the prevention of constipation even if they are not to be considered as laxatives, but rather an intestinal emollients that regulate its motility. Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids are an important contribution to body's health as they are a valuable aid for the proper functioning of the immune system. In the kitchen flax seeds can be added to bread and savoury dough (such as pizza, focaccia), salads and sweets to improve their tastes and nutritional properties.
